Monster Island

Monster Island

Monster Island is a remote, standalone volcanic landmass shaped by titanic geological forces and cloaked in primordial jungle. Formed from four overlapping volcanic calderas, the island rises dramatically from the surrounding ocean, its peaks soaring above 5,000 metres. Isolated from the world beyond its coastlines, the island has developed its own unique ecology, cultures, and dangers. Several indigenous races inhabit the different elevation zones of the island, from the steamy jungles to the cold plateau, each adapted to their harsh environment and often in conflict with one another and the monstrous creatures that thrive in the sultry, geothermally heated landscape.

The island's isolation has preserved ancient ways of life. Obsidian is mined for weapons considered especially effective against "demons," porphyry is carved into temple stelae, and scoria serves as building material. Hot springs dot the dormant ranges, while the active Ruaumoko caldera periodically erupts, sending ash columns into the sky and lava down its growing flanks. The constant threat of volcanic eruption, dangerous terrain, predatory beasts, and inter-tribal tensions creates a setting where survival is a daily challenge and adventure awaits in every unexplored valley
