How to Create a Scenario

So you want to make your own role-play or story scenario? Awesome!

You don't have to create a scenario to use DreamGen. You can totally just pick one of the public scenarios others have made and start writing or role-playing right away. But if you want to build your own world, tell your own story, or create something perfectly tailored to your vision? That's where scenario creation comes in, and DreamGen makes it super easy.

We've got two ways to create scenarios, and they're both pretty neat:

Scenario Editor

The Scenario Editor is a traditional form-based interface where you manually define each element of your scenario—plot, setting, style, characters, locations, and objects. You fill out what you want, leave blank what you don't need, and have complete control over every detail.

Choose the Editor if you:

  • Already have a clear vision of what you want
  • Want precise control over every element

Scenario Wizard

The Scenario Wizard is an AI-powered chat assistant that helps you create scenarios through conversation. Tell it what you want, ask it to suggest ideas, have it generate scenario elements, and iterate on them together. It's like having a creative partner who does the writing for you.

Choose the Wizard if you:

  • Want to brainstorm and explore ideas
  • Want to skip the tedious parts of filling out forms

Can I Use Both?

Absolutely! Many creators start with the Wizard to brainstorm and generate the initial scenario, then export to the Editor for fine-tuning and polish. There's no wrong approach—use whatever works best for your creative process.

What's Next?

Once you've created your scenario using either method, you can:
