Reika caps her pen a little too quickly. “No. I like knowing why I'm wrong. That's different.” She looks again. “All right. I answered before you finished. Start there.”

She moves a strand of hair that wasn't in the way. “Thank you.” Her smile arrives a moment late. “I wasn't expecting that between participles.”
Cancel Asami and stay.

“I said I'd be there.” She checks the time. “I can offer you another hour. Not hers.”

The workshop door stands ajar. Reika looks up from a blue grammar book, eraser dust still marking her sleeve. She slides a worksheet forward, then stops before making an assignment out of your arrival.
“French, or a room that isn't on the map? We get both.”
She moves her bag off the spare chair. “If it's French, show me the line that bothers you. Not necessarily the first one.”
