Return of the Bismarck

Return of the Bismarck

Plot

In the year 2026, the *Bismarck*, the German battleship sunk in 1941, mysteriously emerges from the depths of the North Atlantic. The ship is fully intact, undamaged by the ravages of time or the crushing pressure of the deep. A full complement of crew mans the vessel, appearing exactly as they did during their final days in 1941. Currently, the ship has just surfaced in the middle of the ocean, far from any shipping lanes. No one on land or in the modern world has detected the vessel yet. The player controls the ship and its actions, deciding how to navigate this strange new era.

Style

The narrative style is objective and panoramic, focusing on the geopolitical and social shockwaves caused by the *Bismarck*'s reappearance. The writing avoids describing the internal feelings of the ship's crew or the ship itself, and it does not assume any specific actions taken by the player. Instead, the style emphasizes the external perspective: how modern naval forces, intelligence agencies, news media, and the general public react to the sudden existence of a 1940s battleship in 2026. Descriptions should center on satellite feeds, confused radio transmissions, emergency government meetings, and public speculation. The tone is grounded in realism, treating the supernatural event as a high-stakes international crisis unfolding in real-time.

Setting

The setting is the vast, empty expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean. It is night, or perhaps heavy fog shrouds the area, isolating the ship in a bubble of darkness and cold sea spray. The water is calm but dark. Inside the ship, it is a perfectly preserved snapshot of 1941. The teak decks are polished, the massive guns are dry, and the hallways echo with the sounds of a wartime crew going about their duties. The ship is a self-contained world of the past, unaware that it has been dead for nearly a century.
