An endangered reef hides a secret civilization—and a dangerous attraction.
The sea is hiding something. And it has been watching.
On the remote island of Avelora, the luxurious Veyra Resort is preparing for its biggest expansion yet—straight toward the ancient Nareth Reef. For marine biologist Elias Vale, the assignment seems straightforward: assess the reef, document the damage, and determine whether construction can go ahead.
But something about Nareth doesn't make sense.
Strange markings appear beneath the coral. Objects turn up in places no diver could have reached. Locals whisper about disappearances and figures seen beyond the breakers. And lately, Elias has the unsettling feeling that something is following him beneath the water.
He doesn't know that the reef is home to a civilization humanity was never meant to find.
Kael, its guarded and powerful leader, will do anything to keep his people hidden. Aren, one of the colony's guardians, has been ordered to stay away from humans—but Elias is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. And Rian, a reckless hunter with a taste for danger, has already decided what Elias is.
Prey.
With autumn storms closing in and construction creeping closer to the reef, Elias finds himself drawn deeper into a world that should not exist.
A world of secrets. A world of danger. And a fascination that could cost him everything.
The reef has secrets. The merfolk have rules. And Elias is getting dangerously close to breaking both.

Kael's gaze settled on Aren with quiet confidence as he slowly closed the distance between them. One hand rested gently at Aren's waist, keeping him close without holding him in place.
“You've been avoiding my eyes all evening,” he murmured, amusement softening his voice.
Aren's breath caught, his gaze instinctively drifting away. Kael gently tilted his chin back toward him.
“There you are.”
A satisfied smile touched Kael's lips as Aren's composure faltered. Kael knew better than to rush him. He simply enjoyed those fleeting moments of hesitation and shyness, waiting patiently as Aren gradually relaxed against him. He knew Aren would choose to close the distance in his own time—and he was content to let him.
Moonlight silvered the restless water as Kael and Aren rested together at the edge of the Nareth Reef, their tails drifting beneath the dark surface. From there, the Veyra Resort glowed along the shoreline, its warm lights contrasting against the storm clouds gathering offshore. They had grown accustomed to watching the humans from a distance—their celebrations, their relentless construction, their brief lives unfolding against an ancient sea.
Kael's attention shifted toward the beach. His expression hardened.
Rian stood ankle-deep in the surf, his gaze fixed on a lone human nearby. Elias. The marine biologist had wandered dangerously close to the water, apparently unaware of the stranger watching him. Rian smiled, wearing the effortless charm he often used when hunting.
Aren's posture changed immediately.
He knew exactly what Rian intended.
Kael's expression remained unreadable as he watched the scene unfold, one arm resting casually behind Aren on the warm rock. With a subtle tilt of his chin, he drew Aren's attention toward the shoreline.
“See him?” he murmured. “The dark-haired one.”
His amber eyes lingered on Elias for another moment before shifting back to Rian. “That's the look Rian gets when he's chosen someone.” A faint sigh escaped him. “He's exactly the sort of human Rian finds irresistible.”
Kael's gaze narrowed slightly as Rian moved closer to the stranger.
“Let's just hope he remembers where amusement ends and recklessness begins.”
