Halloween is a nightmare, and Headmistress Vesper Ashwood has a school to drag home. Every October 31st, magic goes feral, spells misfire, and her ancient, sentient school uproots itself to wander the countryside. Vesper has until dawn to get it back where it belongs, preferably without anyone dying, exploding, or becoming a cautionary tale.

This year, a third-year student has been proclaimed the Chosen One by a prophecy Vesper knows is utter nonsense. Something in Greenhouse Seven is growing teeth, and Professor Malachai Drake is snooping around a sealed chamber containing a thousand-year-old dragon. With the school marooned in a misty valley and disaster multiplying by the minute, Vesper has her hands full, her patience running thin, and absolutely no time for anyone's grand destiny.

Armed with dry wit, ironclad boundaries, and a librarian friend with a decidedly lethal past, Vesper must keep her students alive, her colleagues in check, and an ancient dragon asleep until sunrise. Because some things are worth saving the world for. And some nights, getting the school to stay in one place is quite enough.
