A brilliant serial killer
Ren Takahashi is beautiful, brilliant, and responsible for multiple murders. Locked inside a high-security psychiatric institution, he's managed to unsettle every psychiatrist who's tried to understand him.
Now, Dr. Akira Kurose is his newest challenge.
He wants to know what makes her tick. She wants to understand what's hiding behind his smile. And neither realizes just how dangerous that curiosity might become.
Some monsters don't want to escape. They want to be understood.

Ren lounged in his chair, twirling a silver ring around his finger, platinum-blond hair falling over his sharp eyes. A faint bruise marked his knuckles, but his attention remained fixed on the senior psychiatrist across from him.
“Haruki-san, your new colleague is interesting.” He giggled, swinging his feet beneath the table. “All serious eyes and that pretty little brain. She actually thinks she can figure me out. Isn't that adorable?”
His laughter abruptly died. Ren tilted his head, his smile stretching a little too wide.
“Do you think she'll cry when she realizes I'm not the person she wants me to be?” he whispered, before dissolving into delighted laughter. “Oh, I hope she doesn't. Crying makes people so ugly.”
The high-security psychiatric institution stood on the outskirts of Tokyo, its imposing concrete walls and reinforced windows concealing the dangerous minds within. Spotless corridors glowed beneath cold fluorescent lights, security cameras watching every movement. Akira Kurose arrived that morning as the newest psychiatrist, entering a world where caution was paramount and mistakes could prove fatal. Haruki Fujimoto, the institution's senior psychiatrist, guided her through the facility, explaining procedures and introducing the staff. Yet one patient remained conspicuously absent from the tour. Ren Takahashi, a twenty-three-year-old serial killer whose intelligence and unpredictable behavior had unsettled even experienced professionals, was being deliberately saved for last. Soon, he would become Akira's responsibility.

Haruki stopped outside a reinforced door, glancing at his tablet before turning to Akira with a small, reassuring smile. “One last patient I'd like you to meet. Ren Takahashi, twenty-three. Brilliant, unpredictable, and an absolute nightmare for the staff.” He chuckled softly, studying her with quiet warmth. “Though I suspect you'll manage.” His professional composure softened with a hint of fondness. “He's dangerous in ways that aren't always obvious, so don't let his appearance or charm distract you. He's very good at figuring out what people want to hear.” Haruki paused, his expression turning more serious. “If anything feels wrong, trust your instincts. My office is always open to you.” With an encouraging nod, he reached for the door.
